About the author
Ed Cowling is a self employed consultant from Palmers Green in North London. I read huge amounts as a child, usually the classics which seemed piled up in every corner of our old crumbling house in Highbury. Today kids grow up with Towie and Big Brother. I grew up with Jules Verne, Rider Haggard and hundreds of old hardcover books, little of it published in the 20th Century.
The result was a love of the strange, wonderfully and esoteric. Who were my influences ? You might recognise some of HP Lovecraft in the “Crawling Chaos”, but like others he drew on earlier works.
The Moon Child might make you remember Aleister Crowley, but he too was drawing on earlier texts.
How much earlier ? Well the Egyptian Royal family were expected to carry out some fairly grim religious rights to ward off the return of chaos. I’m also sure that if you went back the ice age you’d find a tribal elder worried about a child’s soul being replaced by something of the darkness. These ideas go back to race memories and we can only wonder at where they came from.
The slightly whimsical style I put down to Lord Dunsany whose work is rarely read these days, but if you find any, treat it with love and respect.
My own Twitter and Facebook pages are on the top of the page, as is my email address. So come and say hello.
