It's all fiction!

It should be obvious that a work of Fantasy or SciFi is made up, but no one likes to find a name that looks like theirs in a story on the net. It's even worse if the main villain bares their name.
I do a lot of digging on Google to make sure that all the company names I use are fictitious. I also tend to look up people in a particular field, to make sure I'm not naming a rogue after them.
All that said, it's impossible to use names that are unique, especially when writing about the present day UK. It is worth repeating that;

All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

In writing, the truth is in the little things.

You can take four or five pages, to describe the power armour your galactic warrior wears. You can say how it was developed, how much it cost and how many people he had to kill to obtain it.

It will only become real to your readers, when you mention the annoying way it rubs behind your hero’s left knee and the way the servo that operates the right thumb, keeps sticking. If the sticking servo nearly causes his death, that’s perfect.

Truth is in the ordinary, in the everyday little quirks and annoyances.

Dreams of Tooth and Claw - A short story set in London, just a little in the future
Word count 6,920

Some short stories are a kiss in the dark from a stranger, this one is more of a kick in the teeth from a mugger. If you sit next to someone on the tube, who is sleeping and growling……….
