Bradford

After Ruby? There will be a ‘Ruby 2,’ but it might be six months to a year before it starts. I need the muse to point me in the right direction.

I have another project, ‘Bradford,’ definitely nothing to do with the city in West Yorkshire.

I’ve never liked the word;

Dystopia

A dystopia is an imaginary community or society that is undesirable or frightening.

Frightening? No matter how a world turns out, I guarantee the majority of the population will think it’s home, think it’s heaven. They’ll have all the best and latest gadgets and enough to eat, so why would it be dystopian? There will be malcontents, there always are. Subversives are always the ones to be negative, to challenge the rules that keep the majority happy and safe.

That is where Bradford comes in useful….. he is the one sent in to clean out the pests, the nuisances and anyone else who threatens the safety of the public. He also picks up specimens for LabSync, but that is known to only a select few.

I’ll begin Bradford in chapters from November……..

Poor Merrick, though I suspect we haven’t seen the last of him. And of course we could all tell Babaef that digging up ancient temples never ends well.

But books would be awfully boring if characters did the sensible thing.

Just two more chapters to go and I’ll post both of those to the web in September. There will be a book 2, but I’ll probably leave it about six month and start another new project in between. I promise a proper ending to book 1, no massive cliff hanger.

The book found its own pace, which has been quite leisurely in places, but readers do seem to like an online book that meanders around. It gives you time to fall in love with the characters and get a feel for their lives.

As to who survives into book 2 ?? You’ll know in September…

My own view of writing is to play the story the way the cards fall. I never chuck a chapter away and start again, though I have sometimes been tempted to. I left out a whole section with Max, because it meant yet another group of guys and you’re duty bound to introduce a few of them. I cut and then took a hatchet to my original structure and ended up with….. what I personally think is one of the best chapters so far.

Oh BTW, never forget a bucket if you’re travelling unknown waters……
